Is One Piece on break this week?

No. Chapter 1197 came out on schedule after the one-week break that followed Chapter 1196, and Chapter 1198 is set for the next regular slot. One Piece usually takes a break every three or four chapters, so a pause in the second half of November would not be a surprise. Breaks are announced in Weekly Shonen Jump about a week in advance, and we update the chapter schedule as soon as one is confirmed.

Where to read One Piece Chapter 1198

• Shonen Jump+ (Japanese) for readers who want the original.

The first hints usually appear around Wednesday, and the full text spoilers and raw scans follow on Thursday or Friday before release. For Chapter 1198 that means leaks should start around November 4 or 5. They stay unconfirmed until the official chapter is out. We collect them, clearly labelled and hidden behind a spoiler button, on the Chapter 1198 page.

One Piece Chapter 1197 recap: “Love is Defense”

Chapter 1197, titled “Love is Defense”, is almost entirely about Sanji and his fight against the Holy Knight Killingham on Elbaph. It is one of the biggest character chapters Sanji has ever had, and it ends with a power-up fans have been waiting on for years.

Sanji finally decides to protect his own body

The chapter opens inside Sanji’s head. He looks back at how much his body has carried him through, with flashback panels of the people and battles that shaped him, from Zeff and his sister Reiju to Bon Clay, Jabra, Absalom, Wadatsumi and his father Judge. For the first time, he decides that protecting his body has to come first.

He also understands where his recklessness comes from. As a child he hated the modified bodies of his Vinsmoke siblings so much that he felt he would rather die than have one like theirs. That self-hatred is why he has thrown his body at every fight since. Letting it go is the key to everything that follows.

Killingham’s black armor

Killingham, an immortal Holy Knight, is not an enemy Sanji can wear down with normal attacks. After a flurry of kicks, the knight covers himself in black armor made with Omen, a defense that only Conqueror’s Haki can break. Ordinary Armament Haki will not be enough.

A new flame and a new level of Haki

Sanji answers with a new flame around his leg. It looks like Ifrit Jambe, the power-up he unlocked in Wano, but moves more freely. He uses it to block Killingham’s spear, Longinus, and shatters its tip, although the impact still knocks him down.

When he gets back up, he realises his Armament Haki has reached a new level: hits that should hurt him no longer do. Fittingly for a chapter called “Love is Defense”, Sanji’s breakthrough comes from defending rather than attacking.

“Zoro is the sword, I am the shield”

The emotional peak of the chapter is Sanji naming his place in the crew. If Zoro is Luffy‘s sword, Sanji is Luffy’s shield. It is a direct answer to years of fan debate about the “wings of the Pirate King”, and it gives Sanji a role that is clearly his own.

Conqueror’s Haki: black lightning

Then it happens: black lightning surrounds Sanji, the sign of Conqueror’s Haki. He spins and drives a Conqueror-coated kick straight through Killingham’s defenses, breaking the shaft of Longinus and the knight’s helmet. The final panel shows Killingham spitting blood.

What Chapter 1197 means for Sanji and the Straw Hats

• Sanji now has Conqueror’s Haki. Luffy and Zoro already had it, so the whole “monster trio” now has Conqueror’s Haki going into the final saga.
• The spear and shield of the Pirate King. Zoro as the sword and Sanji as the shield gives the two rivals matching roles at Luffy’s side.
• The Holy Knights can be hurt. Killingham bleeding is the clearest sign yet that the knights’ immortality has limits, and that the battle for Elbaph may be turning.
• Sanji’s Vinsmoke story gets closure. Making peace with his own body closes the loop that started in Whole Cake Island.

Sanji’s current bounty of ฿1,032,000,000 already makes him one of the most wanted pirates in the world. See where he ranks on our full list of One Piece bounties.

What to expect in One Piece Chapter 1198

These are predictions, not spoilers. Nothing about Chapter 1198 has been confirmed yet.

• Killingham’s answer. An immortal knight will not stay down for long. The big question is whether Conqueror’s Haki leaves damage his immortality cannot heal.
• Sanji’s new defense under pressure. Expect a counterattack that tests whether Sanji can block and hit back again, maybe while protecting someone else.
• A switch to another fight on Elbaph. Oda often follows a chapter like this by cutting to another battle. Some readers expect Zoro’s side next, so the “wings” mirror each other.
• The official preview only says: “A fierce battle in Elbaf! What will become of the Straw Hat crew…!?”
